Post-Graduate Opportunities

Through a variety of master's programs and continuing education programs, fellowships, º£½ÇÉçÇø- and Worcester-specific programs, and post-graduate volunteer opportunities, students particularly interested in civic engagement can continue to pursue learning in community-based work.

This page provides a sampling of programs and resources that may be helpful to you as you think about deepening your knowledge of and involvement in community-based learning. The Donelan Office is always available to meet one-on-one with students interested in pursuing a career in community engagement. Please contact us if you have any questions.  is the Center for Career Development's online recruiting portal. Students may use this system to apply for full-time employment and internship opportunities through On-Campus Recruiting, Resume Referral, the Alumni Shadowing Program, and the Summer Internship Program.

 

Master’s Programs/Continuing Education

From the Merrimack College Website: The Master’s in Community Engagement (M.Ed.) prepares students to be non-profit leaders, social change activists, and leaders in the national service learning movement. Students will gain a broad understanding of civic engagement, including trends, theoretical models, and best practices. This versatile degree will prepare students for outreach and partnership work in schools, college, and community organizations. The Master’s in Community Engagement is a 36-credit program.

From the Clark University website: The Community Development and Planning (CDP) program prepares current and future community development practitioners, activists, and scholars to take on the challenges and struggles facing urban areas in the United States. In the program, students learn alternative ways of thinking and transforming communities to achieve greater equity and social justice.

From the Portland State University Website: The Graduate Certificate in Service-Learning and Community-Based Learning in Postsecondary Education consists of an 18-credit series of coursework that focuses on providing sound philosophical, theoretical, and experiential preparation in service-learning and community engagement for those who teach, coordinate, and/or research learning through community involvement with college students.

 

Fellowships

From the Echoing Green Website: Through our two-year, full-time Fellowship, we find people working on a plan to make the world better in a big way. Then we help them become impactful leaders by connecting them with the tools, resources, and communities they need to bring their ideas to life.

From the CORO Website: The Coro Fellows Program develops emerging leaders to work and lead across different sectors by equipping them with knowledge, skills, and networks to accelerate positive change.

From the ASHOKA website: Ashoka Fellows are leading social entrepreneurs who we recognize to have innovative solutions to social problems and the potential to change patterns across society. They demonstrate unrivaled commitment to bold new ideas and prove that compassion, creativity, and collaboration are tremendous forces for change. Ashoka Fellows work in over 70 countries around the globe in every area of human need.All Ashoka Fellows must undergo a rigorous search and selection process in which they demonstrate that they fully meet Ashoka's selection criteria. Upon election, all Fellows agree to abide by the Conditions of Association with Ashoka and gain lifetime support through the world’s leading network of social entrepreneurs. Ashoka helps seed that network investment through stipends that allow Fellows the financial flexibility to fully dedicate themselves to their new ideas.

From the Emerson National Hunger Fellows Program Website: The Emerson National Hunger Fellows Program is a unique leadership development program that trains, inspires, and sustains emerging leaders committed to social justice. Program participants gain practical experience fighting hunger and poverty through placements in community-based organizations across the country, as well as policy experience through placements in Washington, D.C. Through this unique program bridging community-based efforts and national public policy, Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellows develop as effective leaders in the movement to end hunger and poverty.

From the Scoville Website: The Herbert Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship is a highly-competitive national fellowship program that provides recent college and grad school graduates with the opportunity to gain a Washington perspective on key issues of peace and security. Twice yearly, the fellowship's Board of Directors selects a group of outstanding individuals to spend six to nine months in Washington. Supported by a salary, the fellows serve as full-time junior staff members at the participating organization of their choice.

 

º£½ÇÉçÇø-Specific and Worcester Post-Graduate Volunteer Opportunities

Assumption Mission Associates (AMA) is a ministry of young adults in collaboration with the Religious of the Assumption in their mission to effect change in society through prayer, education and community building.

Holy Cross Fellow, – Worcester, MA

, seeks a º£½ÇÉçÇø Fellow to coordinate resident, marketing, and advancement activities at its transitional housing for homeless, former prisoners in Worcester, MA. Ideal candidates will have a commitment to issues of social justice, experience in non-profit milieu, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a comfort working with individuals from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.

Nativity Fellows Program, - Worcester, MA

Nativity School of Worcester offers a comprehensive, quality education to its high-needs, at-risk students as a result of the dedication, hard work, and passion of its Nativity Fellows.  Nativity Fellows are distinguished, recent college graduates who are excited about the challenges and rewards of providing a quality education for Worcester’s disadvantaged boys. Nativity Fellows teach or co-teach three to four class periods per day in addition to serving as advisors, tutors, proctors, coaches, nurses, janitors, drivers, monitors, and managers of all other responsibilities that promote the students’ well-being.  Applicants need not be education majors and need not have a teaching certificate.
