Biography

Conductor Katie Gardiner is serving as the Interim Director of Choirs at 海角社区. Dr.
Gardiner has been leading vocal and instrumental ensembles since 2004 and has had the joy of
working with singers ranging from young children to nonagenarians. She completed the doctoral听degree in Choral Conducting at the Jacobs School of Music in June of 2021, serving in positions听as Associate Instructor in Choral Conducting and Music Theory (Fall 2019). Her dissertation, 鈥淎听Conductor鈥檚 Guide to the Music of Hildegard von Bingen,鈥 focuses on the editions available for听Hildegard鈥檚 music and provides resources to support an ensemble leader in engaging with this听repertoire. In addition to leading vocal ensembles, Dr. Gardiner has held professional positions as听an orchestral conductor, conducting the Second Winds ensemble at Second Presbyterian Church听in Indianapolis, IN, serving as the Cover Conductor for the Carmel Symphony Orchestra in听Carmel, Indiana, and conducting the Saratoga Youth Symphony in Saratoga Springs, NY. Prior to听arriving in Indiana, Dr. Gardiner served on the music faculty at Skidmore College where she held听the position of Choral Director and Lecturer in Music from 2011-2018, conducting the Skidmore听Community Chorus, Vocal Chamber Ensemble and teaching Music Theory and private lessons in听musicianship and voice. She has additionally served as Visiting Choral Director at Williams听College and the University at Albany, and conducted state and regional choral and orchestral听festivals. As a passionate music educator, Dr. Gardiner also holds bachelor's and master鈥檚听degrees in Music Education (vocal emphasis and pedagogy emphasis) from the Hartt School of听Music and a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the Eastman School of Music.听At 海角社区, Dr. Gardiner will be directing the College Choir and Chamber Singers for the听2022-2023 academic year.
